Empowering young minds for a greener future The Environmental
Education Programme at SJK (C) Pei Ying, Sandakan, was an inspiring journey
into the world of rainforest and wildlife conservation! Through interactive
sessions at the exhibition booth, students learned from the Sabah Forestry
Department, Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre, Orangutan Appeal UK, and
Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre about the vital connection between
protecting our rainforests and preserving endangered species. Together, we’re
fostering the next generation of conservation champions who will help safeguard
both our wildlife and their natural habitats!
Sun bear is a forgotten bear species. They are the least known bear and one of the least known large mammals in Southeast Asia until recently. I hope this blog can enlighten readers and open up discussions on how we could help this unfortunate but yet magnificent animal that we call “sun bear".
