Talk at Chinese Taiwan School (Kuala Lumpur)

Today I had a marathon type of lectures at the Chinese Taiwan School (Kuala Lumpur) for the students from grade 1-3, 4-6 at the primary school levels and all student from the high school. Thank you the Headmaster and all teachers of CTS KL for inviting me to share the stories of the sun bears. Although tired and throat sore, you all gave me the positive energy to deliver the talk until the end and the motivation to keep working hard for the sun bears! Thank you all! --- Dr Wong Siew Te

Awareness campaign for the conservation of Nuluhan Trusmadi Class 1 FMU10 Forest Reserve

On 12th September 2024, BSBCC participated in an awareness campaign for the conservation of Nuluhan Trusmadi Class 1 FMU10 Forest Reserve organized by the Sabah Forestry Department. The campaign took place at SMK Tulid Sinua in the district of Sook, Sabah.

Exhibitors from BSBCC, Orangutan Appeal UK, Entomology Section of the Forest Research Centre Sepilok and Rainforest Discovery Centre conducted interactive activities for students to participate in, which supported further understanding on conservation efforts of each organization.

A tree planting ceremony was also held in the surrounding school area. The Sabah Forestry Department presented talks on forest conservation in Sabah and risks of forest fire. An introductory talk on the efforts of wildlife conservation was also presented by the Sabah Wildlife Department.

A total of 100 student participated in the talks sessions and we are also glad to be able to engage with about 900 students in the whole school, learning about sun bears at our booth.

FGV Chairman and Board of Directors visit

Today, we are privileged to welcome the FGV Chairman and Board of Directors for a visit. Dr. Wong Siew Te provided a detailed overview of BSBCC and passionately discussed the challenges faced by sun bears. Subsequently, the delegates were guided on a tour of the observation platforms to observe sun bears within the forest enclosure. We hope this engaging experience will cultivate a fresh partnership between BSBCC and FGV.

OrangJuga team visit

We are pleased to have the OrangJuga team visit us this evening to share about interesting facts about orangutans. The "What to do when you see an orangutan around Kabili-Sepilok Forest Reserve" posters and FAQ books about orangutans and oil palm are also being provided to us.
